Stirling is a city located near the borders of the Scottish Lowlands and Highlands. The city is known as the gateway to the highlands, and is experienced when approaching the many mountains and hills of the lower highlands. In the past, Stirling was known as a market town, where farmers used to sell their products in the agricultural market located in the town. With it's location and development as a market town, it grew as a large retail sector serving the town and surrounding areas.

Shopping in Stirling:

The Thistle Shopping Centre is a large shopping centre located in the city centre, and was opened back in nineteen seventy seven. Thistles Marches was a new phase and was bought by Standard Life Investments in nineteen ninety eight, and has an area of over half a million square feet. The centre attracts more than twelve million people every year, about third of them are visitors from other countries.

Bus Services:

First Group are the main bus operators for the city, with service to surrounding towns such as Alloa and Bridge Of Allan. Stirling Railway Station has services to Edinburgh and Glasgow. To the North there are services to Aberdeen, Inverness and Perth. First Scotrail operate the majority of the services, there is also a daily service to London operated by East Coast.


The University of Sterling was first opened back in nineteen sixty seven, and serves nearly twelve thousand students. The city also houses Forth Valley College, which was formed in two thousand and five.
