Stoke On Trent is a city located in Staffordshire, England. It is also known as The Potteries due to it's association with the pottery Industry. The city is located about midway between Birmingham and Manchester, and lies West of the Peak District.
Road access to Stoke on Trent is via the M6 motorway and the A500 (also known as the D road). Also the A50 major road which runs through the city providing a link from the M1 and M6 motorways. The train station in the city is Stoke On Trent Railway Station, which is on the Stafford to Manchester line. Other railway stations in Stoke On Trent are Longton and Longport. The majority of the bus services are operated by Potteries Motor Traction, owned by First Group.
Stoke on Trent houses Staffordshire University (located near the railway station), which used to be known as North Staffordshire Polytechnic, and achieved university status back in nineteen ninety two. There are 14 secondary schools including the Discovery Academy, St Peter's Academy and Ormiston Sir Stanley Mathews Academy.
The Regent Theatre is the main theatre in the city centre, which opened back in 1929 as a cinema. It later was an Odean but closed as a cinema back in 1989. After a large development in the city centre, it was re-opened in 1999 and has been a great success with many VIP's visiting the theatre.
